Kentucky Derby

 

The Kentucky Derby is arguably the most famous of all Horse Races.

Only the winner of the Kentucky Derby, in any given year, becomes eligible to win the elusive “Triple Crown” of Thoroughbred Horse Racing. This is because a horse has to win all three of the qualifying races: The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont Stakes. Each of these races has to be won consecutively, and in the same calendar year. This is an incredibly difficult task, and arguably becomes more difficult each passing year. This is obvious for many reasons, including: increased attention to the races over the years, more sophisticated training regiments, big money, and, of course, the “king of the hill” effect that occurs in any competition.

The 2015 Triple Crown race season kicks off Saturday, May 2, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky,  and includes many exciting prospects, such as:
